Interior Painting FAQs

  • How Can I Tell if My Walls Have Lead Paint?

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a possibility it contains lead-based paint. To determine if lead is present, you can use an EPA-recognized lead test kit available at hardware stores, hire a certified lead inspector for professional testing, or send a paint chip sample to an accredited laboratory. Lead paint isn’t detectable by sight alone, so proper testing is essential. If lead is found, avoid disturbing the paint and consult a certified lead abatement specialist.

  • How Long Should I Wait Before Hanging Pictures or Moving Furniture Back?

The wait time depends on the type of work completed. After painting walls, it's best to wait 24-48 hours to allow the paint to fully cure. For newly cleaned carpets or floors, wait 6-24 hours to prevent trapping moisture. After drywall repairs or wall patching, wait at least 24-48 hours after painting or priming. For new flooring installations like hardwood, tile, or laminate, allow 24-72 hours to ensure everything sets properly. Always use felt pads under furniture and avoid sliding heavy items to protect the surfaces.

  • What Paint Finish Should I Use for Different Rooms?

Flat or matte finishes are great for ceilings and low-traffic areas, while eggshell or satin works well in living rooms and bedrooms. Semi-gloss or gloss is recommended for kitchens, bathrooms, and trim because it holds up to moisture and frequent cleaning.

  • Is Primer Always Necessary?

Primer is crucial for bare drywall, stained or repaired areas, and when changing from dark to light colors. It ensures better adhesion, more even color, and longer-lasting results. Some modern paints are paint-and-primer in one, but primer is still recommended for challenging surfaces.

  • How Long Does Interior Paint Take to Dry?

Paint is typically dry to the touch within a few hours, but we recommend waiting 24 hours before moving furniture back or wiping down walls. Cure time (when paint fully hardens) is usually around 2–3 weeks.
